Advice to interviewers:
Give the candidates a chance to think before answering, as they might be very nervous. Try to focus on getting them to tell you about what they can do that is connected to the job that they are applying for.

JPEG Sample Questions

2. If you are chosen to do this job, what can you do?
3. What are you really good at?
4. What are your weaknesses?
5. What is your second choice?
6. How would you handle the jealousy from the other students if you got this job?
7. Why do you want to be a part of this company?

Advice to applicants:
Take your time to answer the questions. Wear suitable clothes. Bring something to show that you can do the job. An example is that a Jingle singer would prepare a song to sing or a show host would write a short sample show to perform to the interviewer.

Well done Grade 3. You put on a fantastic performance at the Choral Reading Competition. The audience really enjoyed your performance. I was so proud of you! You memorized a very long poem, performed professionally and enjoyed it too. I was also impressed with your door design for which you also got first place. Double winners! Hi Grade 3,
As I have informed you in the weekly newsletter, the JPEG Interviews are on this Wednesday. You will need to wear smart casual for that day. That means office clothes such as a shirt, tie and long pants for boys and a nice neat outfit such as long pants and top or a skirt with a top or even a dress for the girls. We will learn about office fashion on Monday.
The teachers had to change the day because there are teacher observations on this week and we cannot change that schedule. Mrs. Jane also teaches in Grade 5 and we have to work around those times as well. Please bring in the parent form so that we know which parents can help us on the day.
Don't forget to print out your CV and bring it to school in a plastic pocket folder.

The phoney one, the one you know,

Adjectives and Adverbs

Please play this game for Week 2 English lessons. We will focus on adjectives and adverbs in more detail.

Adjectives

An adjective is a word that describes a noun (the name of a thing or a place).

It was a terrible book.

The word terrible is an adjective. It tells us what the book (the noun) was like.

Where can I put an adjective?

Adjectives can come before or after the noun.

The book he read on holiday was terrible.

Try putting adjectives in different places in your sentences to make your writing more interesting.

Using more than one adjective

If you want to describe a noun in detail, you can use more than one adjective.

He had a mouldy, smelly, overpriced sandwich for lunch.

When you have a list of adjectives like this, separate them with commas.

Adverbs

What is an adverb?

An adverb is a word that describes a verb (an action or a doing word).

He ate his breakfast quickly.

The word quickly is an adverb – it tells us how he ate (the verb) his breakfast.

What’s an adverbial phrase?

Sometimes more than one word can do the adverb’s job. This is called an adverbial phrase.

He ate his lunch really quickly.

The words really quickly are an adverbial phrase. Words like very, more, really and extremely are often used to make an adverb even stronger.

Where can I put an adverb?

Adverbs and adverbial phrases don’t always come after the verb.

He quickly ate his lunch.

Try putting adverbs and adverbial phrases in different places in your sentences to make your writing more interesting.

How does a radio work?
Radio signals are made up of two kinds of waves: “audio” (or sound) waves represent the sounds being sent to the audience and radio frequency waves travel with these sound waves to "carry" them to radios in homes and car, for example. All waves have three parts: a wavelength, an amplitude and a frequency. Each of these parts can be changed to carry information.

Homework for this Week

Hi Grade 3,
This week you will read your second book. It is The Famous Five Go To Smugglers Top. This is a really interesting adventure. I still remember reading it. Can you leave a comment on this post if you find difficult words? I will use this blog to tell you what those words mean.
When I first read the Famous Five I didn't really understand all the words. The Famous Five comes from England and many of the words are British sayings. It's a great way to learn British English. You will find the more you read the easier it will get.
Shhhhhh I have already found the poem for Bookweek. It is really good. We will start to learn it on Monday. Bookweek is in April so let's start getting ready early. I will have auditions for the main characters.

Here is another avatar. The link is here AVATAR You can also make boy avatars here. You can make the doll by clicking on the pictures of hair or body to change it. When your doll avatar is finished you can save as a gif by clicking the middle button under the picture. You will be taken to another page where you can download the picture to your computer. It will be sent to 'downloads' which is on your C drive.

Today we learned how to make a blog. All students will need to have a blog in this UOI. Some students had difficulty because they couldn't remember their email password. Please make a new blog everyone. You can see the Grade 3 blogs on the sidebar.
Your first blog task is to make your blog and to tell Mrs. Jane the URL.
Your second task is to make an avatar. What is an avatar? Go to wikipedia to find out AVATAR

Today Grade 3 made a blog. We have a user policy so that we can be more aware of how to use the blogs carefully.

Blog Authorized Use Policy

1. Never put your phone numbers, full name or house address in your blogs. 
2. Always use your best manners (netiquette) when posting messages on your friend's blogs. 
3. Tell Mrs Jane, Ibu Shirley or your parents if you get any strange comments posted on your blog that you don't understand. 
4. Never tell anyone your password (except Mum and Dad or your teacher - they should know) 
5. Remember to keep safe on the Internet by trashing spam without opening it or emptying your bulk folder regularly. 
6. The information on the Internet can be true and false so don't believe everything - use your own inquiry skills by asking other people and checking your sources. 
7. Always ask Mum and Dad first before going on line.  
8. Only post free animations and images. Make sure that you don't use something from a CD unless it is a free image. You don't want to break copyright! 
9. Write using your own words - don't copy and paste! 
10. Consider carefully what personal photos you publish on your blogs as the Internet can be accessed by anyone.

All parents and students are asked to sign this policy. This is to make sure that everyone understands the blogging rules. The Internet is a wonderful tool but it must be used carefully. Children need guidance to learn how to use it properly. This blog program in Grade 3 has been designed to introduce how to use the Internet responsibly. The teachers need parents to help monitor the child's Internet usage at home. Please contact the class teachers if you have any further questions about this program.

Today Grade 3 played an Internet Safety game. We learned many new things:

Raymond - I learned to keep my full name a secret when online.

Jordaan - Don't use the Internet at home if there is nobody taking care of you.

Sammy - We should have a username for the Internet

Jeremy - Don't type or say bad words online

Kayla - Don't tell ANYONE our password (except Mum or Dad)

Carolyne - You should always write politely online

Moelan - Never meet someone that you have met online in person

Riam - 0:-) means angel

Abby - If our HP has Internet access it can also get a virus

Sammy - If we get a bad comment we should tell our Mum or Dad or our teacher.

Riam - If we get an email that we don't know, we should put it in the SPAM box

Today in class the Grade 3 learned about writing in their own words. This paragraph came from Enchanted Learning.com. It is been pasted here to show the original source:

LAWN MOWERThe first lawn mower was invented in 1830 by Edwin Beard Budding. Budding (1795-1846) was an engineer from Stroud, Gloucestershire, England. His reel mower was a set of blades set in a cylinder on two wheels. When you push the lawn mower, the cylinder rotates, and the blades cut the grass. Budding patented his lawn mower on August 31, 1830. Before his invention, a scythe was used (or sheep or other grazing animals were allowed to graze on the grass). The first reel lawn mower patent in the US (January 12, 1868) was granted to Amariah M. Hills, who formed the Archimedean Lawn Mower Co.
