JPEG Radio Interview Day

Wednesday, 23rd April, 2008

Advice to interviewers:
Give the candidates a chance to think before answering, as they might be very nervous. Try to focus on getting them to tell you about what they can do that is connected to the job that they are applying for.

JPEG Sample Questions

1. Why do you want to apply for this job?
2. If you are chosen to do this job, what can you do?
3. What are you really good at?
4. What are your weaknesses?
5. What is your second choice?
6. How would you handle the jealousy from the other students if you got this job?
7. Why do you want to be a part of this company?
8. How are you going to work together with the other people at JPEG?
9. How will you make this radio station interesting?
10.What interests you about this job?

Advice to applicants:
Take your time to answer the questions. Wear suitable clothes. Bring something to show that you can do the job. An example is that a Jingle singer would prepare a song to sing or a show host would write a short sample show to perform to the interviewer.

Congratulations!

Well done Grade 3. You put on a fantastic performance at the Choral Reading Competition. The audience really enjoyed your performance. I was so proud of you! You memorized a very long poem, performed professionally and enjoyed it too. I was also impressed with your door design for which you also got first place. Double winners! Remember to thank God in your prayers.

JPEG Interviews

Hi Grade 3,
As I have informed you in the weekly newsletter, the JPEG Interviews are on this Wednesday. You will need to wear smart casual for that day. That means office clothes such as a shirt, tie and long pants for boys and a nice neat outfit such as long pants and top or a skirt with a top or even a dress for the girls. We will learn about office fashion on Monday.
The teachers had to change the day because there are teacher observations on this week and we cannot change that schedule. Mrs. Jane also teaches in Grade 5 and we have to work around those times as well. Please bring in the parent form so that we know which parents can help us on the day.
Don't forget to print out your CV and bring it to school in a plastic pocket folder.

Cinderella (new abridged version)

Hi Grade 3,

I have shortened the poem to focus more on the action parts. Please be aware that we will focus on the section in GREEN on Monday, BLUE on Tuesday and the ending on Wednesday.

Cinderella by Roald Dahl

I guess you think you know this story.

You don't. The real one's much more gory.

The phoney one, the one you know,

Was cooked up years and years ago,

And made to sound all soft and sappy

Just to keep the children happy.

Mind you, they got the first bit right

The bit where in the dead of night,

The ugly sisters, jewels and all,

Departed for the Palace Ball,

While darling little Cinderella

Was locked up in a slimy cellar,

Where rats who wanted things to eat,

Began to nibble at her feet.

She bellowed 'Help' and 'Let me out!'

The magic fairy heard her shout.

Appearing in a blaze of light,

She said, 'My dear, are you all right?'

'All right?' cried Cindy. 'Can't you see

'I feel as rotten as can be!'

She beat her fist against the wall,
And shouted, 'Get me to the ball!'
'There is a disco at the palace!'
'The rest have gone and I am jalous!
The fairy said, 'Hang on a tick.'
She gave her wand a mighty flick
And quickly, in no time at all,
Cindy was at the Palace Ball!
It made the ugly sisters wince
To see her dancing with the prince.
Then midnight struck. BONG X 12
She shouted, 'Heck!'
'I've got to run and save my neck!'
The prince cried, 'No! Alas! Alack!
He grabbed her dress to hold her back.
As Cindy shouted, 'Let me go!'
The dress was ripped from head to toe.
She ran out in her underwear,
And lost one slipper on the stair.

The prince was on it like a dart,
He pressed it to his pounding heart,
'The girl this slipper fits', he cried
'Tomorrow morn shall be my bride!
At once one of the Ugly Sisters,
(The one whose face was blotched with blisters)
Sneaked up and grabbed the dainty shoe,
And quickly flushed it down the loo.
Then in it's place she calmly put
The slipper from her own left foot.
Next day, the Prince went charging down
To knock on all the doors in town.
Now came the ugly sisters' go.
One tried it on. The Prince screamed, 'No!'
But she screamed, 'Yes! It fits! Whoopee!
'So now you've got to marry me!'
'There's no way you can back out now!'
'Off with her head!' The Prince roared back.
They chopped it off with one big whack.
This pleased the prince. He smiled and said,
'She's prettier without her head'

Then came up Sister Number Two,
Who yelled 'Now I will try the shoe!'
'Try this instead!' The Prince yelled back.
He swung his trusty sword and smack
'What's all the racket?' Cindy cried.
'Mind your own bizz', the Prince replied.
Poor Cindy's heart was torn to shreds.
My Prince! She thought. He chops off heads!
The Magic Fairy hove in sight.
Her Magic Wand went swoosh and swish
'Cindy!' She cried, 'Come and make a wish!'
Within a minute Cinderella,
Was married to a lovely feller.
They’re house was filled with smiles
and laughter
And they were happy ever after.

Girls
Boys

I have changed the speaking parts because we will perform in the gym and it needs to be louder. We will have girls parts and boys parts and short small group parts. I'll explain on Monday.

Costume jeans and white shirt with main characters in their costumes.

Adjectives and Adverbs

Please play this game for Week 2 English lessons. We will focus on adjectives and adverbs in more detail.

Adjectives

An adjective is a word that describes a noun (the name of a thing or a place).

It was a terrible book.

The word terrible is an adjective. It tells us what the book (the noun) was like.

Where can I put an adjective?

Adjectives can come before or after the noun.

The book he read on holiday was terrible.

Try putting adjectives in different places in your sentences to make your writing more interesting.

Using more than one adjective

If you want to describe a noun in detail, you can use more than one adjective.

He had a mouldy, smelly, overpriced sandwich for lunch.

When you have a list of adjectives like this, separate them with commas.

Adverbs

What is an adverb?

An adverb is a word that describes a verb (an action or a doing word).

He ate his breakfast quickly.

The word quickly is an adverb – it tells us how he ate (the verb) his breakfast.

What’s an adverbial phrase?

Sometimes more than one word can do the adverb’s job. This is called an adverbial phrase.

He ate his lunch really quickly.

The words really quickly are an adverbial phrase. Words like very, more, really and extremely are often used to make an adverb even stronger.

Where can I put an adverb?

Adverbs and adverbial phrases don’t always come after the verb.

He quickly ate his lunch.

Try putting adverbs and adverbial phrases in different places in your sentences to make your writing more interesting.
